With characters like Secret Skull and Verne (half machine, half brain of Jules Verne), this comic did have the potential to be entertaining in a quirky way. But unfortunately, the characters weren't fleshed out enough for me to care about them and the plot seemed randomly thrown together at times and thus didn't manage to capture my interest. One part of the story is the main characters' attempt to find the stolen skull of Edgar Allan Poe. That by itself sounds great, but sadly, it doesn't exactly play a big part in the overall story. The weakest part of the story, however, is actually the fact that
Spoilerthe thief responsible for the disappearance of Poe's remains is called Mr Culprit. Really? Literally every other name would have been fine ... great job.

Fiona Staples' artwork, on the other hand, is unsurprisingly great—and the reason I picked this volume up in the first place.
