I saved this book from the publisher returns at my work, but I quickly understood why people didn't want it. This Hans Christian Andersen story is bleak beyond description. There's a lesson buried in there, about appreciating where you are in life instead of looking to the past or the future, but gosh, at what cost is that lesson learned?

That said, I love this illustrator, and the book itself is a work of art. I love it when folk tales are released outside of giant compilations, and I'm happy to have this book in my collection.
