The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

3.0

3.5 / 5

I'm not entirely sure what to make of this book. I neither loved nor hated it, so I struggled to decide on a star rating; it's not bad enough to warrant a 1 or 2 star but I'd say a 4 would be pushing it, yet a Goodreads 3 means "I liked it" .. which I didn't, really. I sort of enjoyed a small portion in the middle but, for the most part, I felt disappointed and not particularly satisfied with the fact that this was the concluding part to the trilogy - that two decent-enough books led to this ending, an ending that's probably more satisfying to fans who are more interested in the romance aspect of the story.
I watched a bit of an interview with Michelle Hodkin where she says that yes, all major questions that we have are answered but, to me, a lot of things felt unresolved and open-ended. I felt like more time could've been spent on explaining than pages of cheesy tragedy and unnecessary murder.
