The Witch Rescues Her Werewolf by Cate Dean, Kristen Painter

2.0

It was very generous of Kristen Painter to have opened up the Nocturne Falls Universe to other writers, but this installment may well be an argument against the decision. A tale about a Witch and a Werewolf shifter, both in need of healing and repair, should have been compelling and more than a little magical. In this story, the instant mutual affection between the principals is unearned. And while there is the hope for both of them that their gifts might one day be restored, this tale is really about a dearth of magic and a loss of power.

Sheriff Merrow is present here, but not written true to character as other reviewers have noted. He's well-meaning but ineffectual. Willow the Jeweler Fae delivers "too little too late" (her words)... if you're going to have lynchpin/canon characters in your expansion-pack work, they should be recognizable.

I'd have loved to see this story told by Painter herself.
