Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend

4.0

Not going to lie, it took me a little while to ease back into the world of Nevermoor. I think when #3 comes out I might need to re-read from the 1st book, because I had literally no idea what the heck was happening.

Morrigan is back again, this time her unit 919 classmates, who hate her (mostly). All the fun of a magical boarding school and interesting new classes is somewhat dimmed by the fact
Spoiler that Morrigan can't attend any due to the elders thinking she is too dangerous
. A number of people and important wunimals go missing, a mystery that clearly only Morrigan can solve! haha
Spoiler It is revealed they are being sold on the black market (or Ghastly Market as it is known). Interesting theme, perhaps the author is trying to bring light to issues that we have in our real society with people trafficking and the like? Not 100% sure on that but thought it was interesting.
The book explores what it means for Morrigan to be a Wundersmith and questions whether they are innately evil.
Spoiler Somewhat predicable when the traitor is revealed, it always seems to be an adult who is trusted. I would have been more shocked if it was one of the teenagers that were so awful to Morrigan initially

I don't completely understand the chapter sub-lines on some chapters of Winter of One, Spring of Two - not sure if its just to help us keep track of what time of year it is? If you can enlighten me - please do!

Interested to see where it will head next!
