Look, the fact of the matter is that if you walk into my store in search of a particular brand of horror or light romantasy, I'm very likely going to babble with glowing praise for half an hour about T. Kingfisher and then throw one of her books at you. That's just what's going to happen, okay? And this book completely reinforced that feeling. Again.
She writes real, witty, loveable characters in ridiculous and sometimes hysterical circumstances. I want to know and be known by (almost) all of them.
But she's able to gross me out and terrify me, too. She's written some amazing existential horror, and to go from laughing my a$$ off on one page to wrinkling my nose on the next is a thing of beauty. And even this book involves some darkly humorous conundrums about hiding bodies and some real dread-laden moments.
I really don't think there's much Kingfisher can't do literarily if she puts her mind to it. If you want an idea of the breadth of her skill, this is a great book to start with.
