This hyperviolent escapist fantasy doomer tragedy is a manga I wholeheartedly endorse for all the wrong reasons.
It has: Copious amounts of gore, sick action sequences, awesome monsters, melancholy characters, and engaging worldbuilding.
It also has: Zero fluff- every issue, page, and panel has a purpose. Applicable themes, such as releasing control of your life to an authority figure and the consequences. Death and loss as a part of life and how one carries on past it. And finally, my favorite, a wholehearted endorsement to pursue your dreams unto death, even if your dreams amount to toast with jam and getting laid.
This manga reads itself in the back of my mind sometimes, and I'm incredibly glad I read it.
Would recommend, will read again, and will keep on my bookshelf.
