The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb by Arthur Conan Doyle

2.0

I continued listening to the shorter episodes of Phoebe Reads a Mystery podcast, in which Phoebe Judge reads stories that are in the public domain.

The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb (one chapter of the larger The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes) is a gruesome little story, in which an engineer, hired to fix some machinery, is attacked, almost killed, and loses his thumb in the process.

The story is good but the mystery isn't all that special—Sherlock only seems to deduce the location of the de-thumbing & the true purpose of the machinery the engineer was hired to fix; most everything else is already known.
