So this was the story a black trans girl who befirends a mysterious monster like creature who is here to hunt an actual monster (a person hurting others).

I really liked this metaphorical "A Monster Calls" type story. It takes a look at a society were seemingly nothing bad ever happens anymore after a revolution. But really it's just hidden under the package of being all good.

It was no small thing to try to restructure a society, to find the pus boiling away under the scabs, to peel back the hardened flesh to let it out. Jam had heard stories of how horrifying it had been to see the truth of how many monsters there were in Lucille – the public ones, the private ones, the chameleons, the freestyle solitary ones, the charismatic smiling ones

I don't remember this as well because I read it over 2yrs ago but I did like how it was written. It was kind of slow paced though I think. I also remember being frustrated by how nobody was really listening to our main charcter but I think that's the point.

Also love the representation. Love how this isn't a book about her being black, trans or selectively but but just her being a teen. And while those books are important so are these.
