Any Man by Amber Tamblyn
4.0

Any Man is unlike anything I’ve read before.
This novel takes a very haunting and intense look at the aftermath of, not only sexual assault, but sexual assault on men.
It follows the stories of 5 men who are all victims of one 1 anonymous assailant, who goes by the name Maude… How these men are take advantage of and then questioned, doubted and have their very identities ripped from them. And more importantly, how these men learn to heal, despite societal projections.
I wouldn’t say this is a fun or easy read, but I do think it’s an important one, told from a perspective we don’t usually hear.
Stylistically, This book is not laid out like most. There’s no real scene setting or drawn out descriptions, and the writing is abstract, combining poetry and prose, journal entries, tweets, chat conversations, unfiltered/raw thoughts, etc. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the style, but now I think it’s very fitting. Because this isn’t your normal novel. It’s a work of art.
Check the trigger warnings, but overall, I would recommend this.
