Ivy Aberdeen's Letter to the World
by Ashley Herring Blake
A fun little fact about me is that if you look at the app my Doctor uses you can see a list of my mental health diagnosis. They are listed very nicely for me to see:
1. Anxiety
2. Depression
3. Victim of tornado
Victim of tornado? Personally, I’ve never heard of this. Anxiety, yes. Depression, yes. PTSD definitely. But no, in my official health chart, I am diagnosed as “Victim of tornado.”
And as “victim of tornado” I can say that this book got so many things right. At the beginning of the book, I wondered if I would even be able to get through it. It was triggering as hell. All the little details of the storm and the feelings of the aftermath were exactly right, down to the sound the tornado made. Ivy’s feelings after the storm were so relatable that it hurt to read sometimes.
But this was truly a beautiful story. Watching Ivy come to terms with what it means to be herself, figuring out who that even is was so lovely. This book had me sobbing by the end. I don’t even know how to talk about how good it was.
