The Queen of Bedlam by Robert R. McCammon

5.0

Our sweet innocent man of honour, Matthew Corbett, has moved to New York City, where he has to face bigger problems than witch burnings. There's a merry serial killer called The Masker (don't ask) on the loose! Young master Corbett pursues clues, receives job offer from mysterious lady, coins the term "detective", pays a very awkward visit to a whorehouse and falls in love (though he doesn't know it yet). This is fun, breezy historical fiction without the didactic dullness common for the genre. Keep on being adorable, Matthew.
