this series makes me want to bawl my eyes out of happiness like it’s all so sweet and happy and funzies. i was reading all of the previous books to get to this one so i can get the full effect for it bc i was hopping around the series at first but for this one i was really excited for it that i read the others to prepare and it was worth it to understand the little references seen throughout the book w the family members. their slowburn is so good like it’s not as slow as mariana zapata but it’s enough to be considered a slowburn and it’s just too good w the tension and the chemistry between the main characters it’s a classic opposite attracts. there’s sm i love about this book aside from the characters i love the diversity in this book like the author includes everyone of all ages races gender sexual orientation and it’s just refreshing to read about one thing i will be a #hater about is the pop culture references pls don’t mention encanto for my sake pls but ngl i did like the hamilton reference bc hamilton is different ok let a girl live. i also love the humor in this book the characters bounce off each other so well and their pranking moment was too good fr. oh i also didn’t like how gavin’s backstory is barely mentioned and when it is talked about it’s so vague bc all that is known is that he left england soccer bc he felt he was no longer good enough to be on top so he moved to the us where he’s good there but his body is really pushing it and he knows he’s gonna have to retire soon. but there’s not much about his background it’s only mentioned at the very end that he only cared about this one mentor guy who got him into soccer but he passed away. he was raised by his uncle and aunt who he doesn’t like but he says i’m not ready to talk about it yet so it’s never fully explained why he doesn’t like them and there’s also mentions of an ex lover he had so i’m just confused why the author brushed off his past idk i wish there was more to it so we get a better understanding of his past but whatevs. it’s ok bc i still love his characters like he’s described as this swedish cake as hard on the outside but soft on the inside and that’s so real like he’s so caring towards the oliver while trying to hide his feelings bc he felt both envious and attracted to him bc he’s at his prime and he feels like he’s nothing without soccer leading to his jealousy yk. i love oliver too hes so sweet and quirky one of my fav brothers out of the family like he’s always caring for others that’s just who he is like who goes on coffee runs for the staff and is always the little jokester but he’s put on this facade of always being optimistic for some reason i forgot but he lost a part of himself trying to please everyone else but he goes back to his roots w his family’s help fr bc the whole reason he’s changed was gavin as he’s always gave him the cold shoulder but he finally realizes that he doesn’t have to take his shit and he can stand up for himself. their relationship developing warms my heart sm bc they’re neighbors too so that kind of forced proximity allows them to grow closer as they’re able to see the people who care about them and meet them for themselves like oliver meeting the poker guys too good i love the poker guys for gavin they bring out the best in him and push him to expand his life from more than just soccer. they’re just such a cutesies couple fr bc they both understand each other so well and inspire each other to be the best versions of themselves. they also have such good banter teasing each other about their clothes and how oliver is a big musics fan. i’m such a lover of love it’s hard being me fr but yeah i love their dynamic and towards the end when gavin got into his accident and had to retire and he left oliver bc he didn’t want to bring him down it was sad but something he would do but it had him realizing how much he loved him and he basically confessed his love for oliver over a press conference and flew out to washington to see him he’s so sweet and good at groveling i love. yeah this is such a good book i’m giving it a 9/10 so fluffy and cute.
