Boy Parts by Eliza Clark

4.0

Irina obsessively takes explicit photographs of the average-looking men she persuades to model for her, scouted from the streets of Newcastle.

This book was one wild ride! It was dirty, funny and totally crazy!! It felt like I was reading a mixture of Supermarket, American Psycho and My Year Of Rest And Relaxation... all of which are some of the best books I’ve ever read. Although this book did remind me of those, it is definitely important for me to stress that Eliza has such a unique and original writing style! It totally captivated me and I couldn’t put this book down in the day I read it.

This book dove deep into the exploration of sexuality, gender roles, drug and alcohol abuse, consent and about everything else you can think of. As you’re reading it becomes darker and darker, and definitely goes in a direction you don’t expect, and that was totally amazing. It has characters that you love to hate, but at the same time, want to see come out okay in the end!

One thing that also attracted me to this book, was this it is set partly in Newcastle! I live in Durham (super close to Newcastle) and I used to work and go out there, so it was so cool reading about places I’ve been to and saw everyday!

Overall this book ticked all the boxes for me, although I kind of wish it was longer!!
