Brown Girls by Daphne Palasi Andreades

3.0

This book is supposed to be an ode to brown girls, and while it did feel like that, it also felt a bit lofty at times. The author sure packed a lot of brown girl identities and cultures into one book. The writing style wasn’t really for me: First person plural, and the chapters seemed more like vignettes than chapters of a novel imo. I identified with a lot of the experiences detailed in this book and felt emotional when I could relate; but I felt my focus drifting during the parts I didn’t personally relate to.
