Beautiful Redemption by Kami Garcia, Margaret Stohl

3.0

Ethan thinks his live is stuck in a rut, generations of his famiily have lived in Gaitlin and his highschool life is the very picture of mundanity. That is, until a new girl arrives in town and he quickly comes to realisation that the sleepy town isn't quite as simple as he once thought. Introduced to a supernatural world that was always hidden from him and managing to fall head over heels for this stranger who feels surprisingly familiar, he becomes caught up in a very literal struggle between light and dark. His destiny may be far greater than he ever imagined.

Over the course of this series I was shown plenty of love, loss and, of course, a healthy dose of teenage angst in reaction to it all (it IS narrated through the eyes of a sixteen year old, after all.) I genuinely began to care about the characters, was saddened by their lo0sses and emboldened by their triumphs. It was one of those chronologies that has you racing through, longing to know what happens next and come the end, as glad as you are for them, you're left hollow in the knowledge that the ending, however happy, is still an end.
