City on Fire by Don Winslow

4.0

This pacing feels like I’ve been chugging Red Bull and forgot it gives me heart palpitations. Amazing– for how little world building there was, I was surprised how crystal clear my brain pictured it. Like it’s an alternate universe to Goodfellas. Or maybe I feel like that because the dialog heavy plot feels like a movie script.

Confession: This usually isn’t my reading lane but your glowing reviews sold me to buy it as a Christmas gift for my FIL. I thought this could be a conversation starter at the next family gathering. *shrugs* Post-reading, I’m only a quarter-horrified. (Ha, ha) But I should have known, in this kind of book- there will be no soft punches around sex and drugs.

3.75/5 (Rounded Up, because I’m tempted to read book 2)
