Echoes of Home by M.L. Rayner
3.0

Echoes of Home by M.L. Rayner is an engrossing ghost story. Leslie Wills has spent his life taking care of his parents while his brothers went off and made something of themselves. When their mother dies and Les is left aimless and unsure where his life is going, one of his brothers appears with an opportunity for him. Les is gifted a new home and a new future. Odd things start happening and Les uncovers some dark secrets about his new home. There are chilling elements to this story. I love a good haunting in a isolated place, where you can’t be sure what the truth is. The characters are endearing. I enjoyed the writing style. The narrator on the audiobook speaks in a very thick Scottish accent for part of it and I had no clue what was being said. I do wish it would have been easier to understand. This is a brawl book and I feel like I should be made to feel scared or disgusted or something for a horror book. While I liked these characters and was intrigued, I never had any anxiety for them or felt like they were in true danger. It just didn’t give “horror” for me. It was an enjoyable read, though. It is based in true events and I like that aspect. 3/5 stars.
