I've started reading these because of nostalgia, and while I'm not disappointed, I'm definitely surprised. These are very very different from the movies I've grown used to.
Mostly, I'm missing Astrid -- my bomb-as-hell, super strong, super cool favorite character from the movie franchise. I'm missing having any girls in the plot. There's literally none. I do really love Fishlegs in this, though! I surprised myself with how much I like him and am growing attached to his character. And obviously Hiccup and Toothless are wonderful, even if the latter is drastically different from his adorable screen counterpart. (Toothless is a little prick in this, and I love it.)
I do think the plot in this is a little lacking, but I enjoyed it nonetheless and I can't wait to pick up the rest of the series.
