This is roughly based on real events and real people.  It is heartbreaking and left me angry.  Angry at the flawed political system, at the abuse of women, at the spitefulness of people.  I also loved the relationship of the main character and her husband.  The are middle aged with young adult children and still have a solid, loving relationship.  The side characters added so much to the story as well.  This is the second book I have read by this author and plan to read all she wrote.
