I've never read a book where the author sets out to make you hate the main character. Getting a glimpse into how he makes decisions and how he rationalizes the terrible things he does was so interesting. I wish this book felt less relevant to current events. It expands on the Hunger Games beautifully and respectfully, never forgetting that the basis of the series is serious and horrifying, and reminding us that we are not unlike those we view as monsters. In some stories, we are those monsters.
