How Europe Underdeveloped Africa by Walter Rodney

2.0

Unfortunately, this book is aged. None of the arguments are new now, but I understand the same was not true when it was written. The only new lens for me was the explicitly Marxist analysis. This, too, is now somewhat detrimental with the benefit of hindsight on the failures of the communist states. For the most part, the writing style is unmemorable, but it becomes quite enthusiastic in some areas and though that may come off as naive now, it is still inspiring. The first fourth of the book is rather a slog to get through, and I would only really recommend it as a refresher/primer or if you're interested in the history of political-economic analysis.
