They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

5.0

I'm not going to lie this is probably one of the best books I have ever read. Adam Silvera has literally created a masterpiece and no one can convince me otherwise.

Content warnings: Animal death - Blood - Child death- Death - Drowning - Gang violence - Grief - Gun violence - Mental illness - Panic attacks - Suicide (past, parental) - Suicide ideation

Pros:

Plot and Pacing

THIS PLOT WAS SO GOOD. The plot was such a brilliant and creative idea and I am in love with it. It was really intriguing and kept me at the edge of my seat all the time. The book was well paced almost all of the time and that made me really happy.

“You may be born into a family, but you walk into friendships. Some you’ll discover you should put behind you. Others are worth every risk.”

Characters

These characters are perfectly written. I am so attached to *most* of them. They had so much depth, I kept praying the book will never end because I wanted to know more about these characters. They are all well written and developed and they will definitely stick with me for a while.

“No matter how we choose to live, we both die at the end.”

Writing Style

Adam Silvera's writing is beautiful. It is easy to read and perfect for all ages. Their writing is honestly unique, it is one of the best I have ever read.

“There has to be more to life than just imagining a future for yourself. I can't just wish for the future; I have to take risks to create it.”

Chapters

Almost all of the chapters were short and I really love that because it makes me soar through the book.

“You may be born into a family, but you walk into friendships. Some you’ll discover you should put behind you. Others are worth every risk.”

Other Ideas

This book has made me re-evaluate my entire life. They both die at the end has made me want to go out and live my life without overthinking about anything. It has made me want to live my life without and regret.

"Some risks are worth it."

Cons:

Pacing

The pacing was a bit slow at some points and that made me a bit annoyed.

“Yes, we live, or we're given the chance to, at least, but sometimes living is hard and complicated because of fear.”

Other Ideas

I don't really like the fact that the ending of the book is in the title because it takes away from the shock factor of the book in my opinion

“Maybe it's better to have gotten it right and been happy for one day instead of living a lifetime of wrongs.”
