The Small and the Mighty: Twelve Unsung Americans Who Changed the Course of History by Sharon McMahon
hopeful

I have savored this book over the last month, reading it in bite sized chunks, and finished it this morning with tears streaming down my face. This is a history book, my friends. A history book that will make you want to be a better person.
As an adult, and particularly an adult who grew up in a military family that moved every three years, I have found that my education in the area of history is extremely fragmented. There are many missing pieces. Oh, Cradle of Civilization you say? Tigris, Euphrates, Mesopotamia... (move)...houses of government...(move)... World War II. Ummmmm, what just happened?? It's been up to me to fill in the blanks. I thought I'd done a good job, but now I realize that there are many more missing pieces.
Sharon McMahon (@sharonsaysso on Instagram) is a Government teacher and an amazing writer who makes you feel like a friend over for coffee as she tells you about these every day Americans who just did the "next right thing" and changed the course of our history. She makes you feel that if you just keep doing the next right thing, you could be that person, too.
I hope she realizes that she is one of those people. This book is a must-read.
