The Conspiracy Against the Human Race by Thomas Ligotti
5.0
This book was part fever dream, part instructional manual, and the fact that I read it at a pretty dark time in my life makes it one of my top two books. Ligotti is a hateful, miserable writer who has a sense of humor darker than the inside of a black hole. You have to be really demented to enjoy this book, and I am glad I did. In the process, I realized the darkness that resides inside me and the absolute, sheer fucking horror that living in this world actually is.
This is not an easy book to read, but it does reward you for reading it.
And I loved the last chapter where Ligotti stands on his soapbox and yells at us like a madman gripped in the clutches of the cosmic horrors that he has been trying to escape from all his life. But now the old ones are here and they are angry.
