The Secret Adversary by Agatha Christie
3.0

I listened to the audiobook.

This is the first of the Tommy and Tuppence mysteries.

Discharged from their posts after WWI, Tommy and Tuppence find themselves without jobs or money. They get involved with the mysterious disappearance of Jane Finn, which leads them into a whole socialist network of spies, led by the invisible Mr. Brown.

I knew who Mr. Brown was with his/her first appearance. I admit, I was afraid toward the end that I'd gotten it wrong, but when his/her identity was revealed, I said, "YESSS!" and sat back with a smile.

The mystery is pretty good; there are a few too many red herrings for my liking. The last chapter could have been shortened by two-thirds and I wouldn't count it a loss.

This isn't Christie's best, but it's still better than a lot of the mysteries I read.
