Oh my god. Its been a long time since I loved a book this much and was this attached to characters. I love them all so much (except of course the villains). I dont know how I managed to read this massive 600 page book in one day but I somehow Did it. This was just one of those books where you get absolutely immersed in the characters and their relationships with each other and the story. It was a good setting, good plot, complex characters that felt with really hard situations, and the side characters to were really important to the story.
As I said - I LOVE the characters, and by that I dont just mean the two main characters I mean the brothers and friends too, and Johnnys parents. Shannon was so precious and relatable to me and I just wanted to give her a hug. I saw a lot of myself in her, how she acted sometimes and a lot of the lines in her inner monologues. Johnny was the perfect book boyfriend in my opinion, he cared so much for her and I love that he was exactly what she needed.
You get to see their day to day interactions, thoughts, struggles and I personally love those kind of character driven books, its probably my favorite type of books because I love to really get invested in the characters lives.
I love seeing the relationships between everyone in this book, not just the romance between Shannon and Johnny but also the sibling relationship between Shannon and Joey and the other brothers, it was so beautiful seeing how much they loved each other and cared for each other.
It was a heavy read and made me feel it all and I know it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but its my cup of tea. Its everything I need in a romance book, the angst, the family drama, and the cute moments.
Content warnings: child abuse, domestic abuse, bullying (check out full list if you think you might need it)
