browsing B&N after my ACOTAR hangover a few months ago I came across this book cover with a bat wing on it and said "yes yes, dis 4 me."

I knew absolutely nothing about this book, let alone that it was a series and I am very pleasantly surprised. I love/hate that it's a fantasy world woven into modern times. it's almost like ACOTAR meets Blade. there are portals connecting the various realms and the creatures live amongst the humans in secret almost like Harry Potter. which, tbh the mentioning of Harry Potter and of a fae king wearing an ACDC shirt really threw me off at times - hence my hate part of this affair.

however the story is very fun. I love Des - reminds me a lot of a discount Rhys mixed with Nikolai from shadow and bone. Callie was really neat too, she had a rough past and isn't a weak heroine that makes dumbass decisions to further the plot. I love when that happens. we stan tough bitches here 💃👑

I will say, if you are looking for something to cure your ACOTAR hangover I don't know if this is it. I am glad I waited awhile and read the Grishaverse before diving into this. I don't think I would have liked this as much as I do now and probably would think it's a little juvenile. so, if you are looking to fill that ACOTAR hole, come back to this after you read another fantasy series or 2 in-between.
