I binged this and book two on audio while I was sick at the beginning of the year and they made for a great escape/adventure while I was lying miserable in bed.

I really enjoyed the atmospheric descriptions of Fable’s dives and life at sea; I think they were some of the best-written parts of the book. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a book with a nautical setting and it was a really fun change of pace.

My favorite part of the book was Fable’s gradual acceptance into a new found family. She went from a cutthroat existence of survival on Jeval to a, well, still-cutthroat existence with people who have her back — so pretty much all I can ask for, lol.

I enjoyed the various small heists and escapades the characters undertook throughout the book, I thought the budding romance was cute, and even though Fable wasn’t the most relatable character for me, I still cheered for her as she sought to be seen and valued by her father and make a life for herself.

I had a hard time rating this one because I definitely enjoyed it, but overall it wasn’t super memorable for me. Though, to be fair, I don’t retain as much from audiobooks as ebooks or physical books. Maybe I should try a reread in the future.

Overall, Fable was an entertaining and well-written adventure perfect for fans of YA fantasy with strong FMCs and found family; and fans of Pirates of the Caribbean and Daughter of the Pirate King.
