Beware Mohawks Bearing Gifts by S.A. Collins

4.0

I really enjoyed this book! It had a very old-fashioned literary feel to it. I enjoyed the alternate history with a sovereign First People's nation (something that I found rather bittersweet, given that it is the way things should be and not as they are).
William is drawn into an adventure with his Mohawk roommate from college, Jacob, and the mysterious Joss, with whom William experiences a strange sense of deja vu whenever he's near. Soon embroiled in a brewing war of magic and mayhem with former gods and supernatural forces, William is in over his head. His strange connection with Joss is stronger by the minute, and William learns more than he bargained for about his family and inescapable destiny among his own people.
The story was original and different. I liked Joss and William's relationship development. The plot moved a bit slowly at times, but the payoff was worth it, and I'm very interested to see where the second book goes.
