I think this was one of the best Cinderella retellings I’ve ever read. Maybe even better than Cinder. Not better than the whole Lunar Chronicles, but definitely better than Cinder.

“We are all trapped here, our stories already written.”

This retelling was so original, and dark. Very dark. I didn’t expect it to be this dark, and so fast-paced. There wasn’t a moment where I thought it was boring or too slow. There was always something happening, and the plot twists kept coming and coming.

“Do not be silent. Raise your voice. Be a light in the dark.”

The characters were very lovable. The main character was lesbian, so I read it for Pride Month. It was a very nice touch to the story, because the king was so homophobic. Women didn’t have anything to say at all, and when you’re a lesbian you’re just being forfeited.

“That you try to flatter me when I have a blade at your neck makes me want to slit your throat and spare the world your ignorance.”

I’m not diving into the story too much, because I think it’s better if you don’t know everything before reading it. I just want to say that Kalynn Bayron has put together an amazing story, and I can’t wait to read her next book!
