Lose You to Find Me by Erik J. Brown
2.0
I thought it was okay. The biggest problem was just how much twists and turns the book had to use. First, we learn that Gabe actually remembered Tommy, then we learn Gabe has a boyfriend, then we learn he has an abusive pedophile boyfriend, then we learn he’s related to Natalie, then we learn Ava’s taking a gap year… there’s so much surprises and so little room to take in all of them. It feels a bit overwhelming.
In fact, the whole book feels overwhelming. I think if it was longer, split into two books, or better paced, I would like the book more. But now, I think it’s structurally messy and not well executed.
The plot itself is goofy. I would assume Tommy realizes that him using Brad is a terrible idea … but no, it becomes the main romance for no reason. Gabe feels like a secondary character by the end of the book for some strange reason. I have barely any idea why Gabe continuously clings to Victor despite the one-sided relationship. He deserved a somewhat more healthy romance with Tommy, but at the end, I can’t help but feel sad for him.
Edit: after reading some reviews, I’m astounded. You’re telling me people hate the victim for wanting to get out of his hellhole abusive relationship with a pedophile? He should’ve left Victor and went with Tommy. It’s not a fair love triangle if it’s between two 17 year olds and a 21 year old.
