In a Jam by Kate Canterbury *Re-read
Quotes: "But all she said was, “It’s really good to see you, Noah,” and I was sixteen all over again."
“You said she was the one who got away,” .. “You said she’d always be the one.”
"All she has ever wanted is a family and the regular old things that come with families."
“I don’t think you’re forgettable,” I said. “Believe me. I know. I’ve tried to forget you. I couldn’t. Nothing I did chased those memories away.”
"She deserved everything, even if I couldn’t be the one to give it to her."
Review: A couple of years ago, I read this on KU. On a whim. I ended up really liking it. Upon revisiting it, I think I like it more now. It's easily one of the best contemporary romance or romcoms I've read.
You get some of the typical things you'd expect. Like the fake dating / marriage of convenience, etc.. Maybe a little cheesy. But it's so good. Some books you just love.
I liked the characters a lot. Not just Shay and Noah, but Gennie, his niece. Who is hilariously foulmouthed.
There's good humor mixed in. Phenomenal banter. And a tremendous slowburn. The story is very romantic, and I don't say that often. There's little details thrown in that give the story and characters depth.
When Shay comes back, Noah quickly realizes he never got over the girl who was his best friend, who left one day without saying goodbye. She had no idea how much she meant to him.
After Shay had to face the embarrassment of her wedding being called off shortly before it could start. Little does she know it would lead her to go back to the one place she called home as a teen and the boy who was always there for her.
I think the tagline on the cover said it best:
"She's the one who got away. She just doesn't know it."
Thanks for reading 📚
