I love a collection of short stories (and highly recommend reading one if you’re in a reading slump, as you’ll fly through it.) Most collections have stand out stories and a few that are fine. This collection though doesn’t have a dud in the mix. Several of these will stay with me for a long time.

These ten short stories range in characters and themes, but all have a big beating heart at the core. “Creature” and “When in the Dordogne” center around separate tween perspectives of the world and the people around them as they grapple with who they are. “North Sea” and “Five Tuesdays in Winter” revolve around single parent/child relationships through the adult’s perspective. “Hotel Seattle”  reunites college roommate after their relationship dissolved when one came out as gay.

The stories I mentioned are my favorites in the collection. The themes of grief, adolescence, and self discovery were threads throughout many of the stories.
I’ve loved King’s fiction books “Euphoria” and “Writers & Lovers” in the past, and this is now another favorite. She has cemented herself as an autobuy author for me!
