Blindsight by Peter Watts
4.0

This novel makes up for its lack of compelling relationships with a wildly imaginative world and hard-hitting (and sometimes horrifying) questions about consciousness and free will. It was described to me as a deep space horror story featuring zombies, vampires and neurodivergent savants - but this doesn't capture the sense of plausibility Watts has achieved by couching these tropes in just enough "science" that we buy them as possible in our world, not a parallel universe. Super fun. Super scary. Well-written and truly wacky. I won't be forgetting about this book anytime soon.
