I Guess I Haven't Learned That Yet: Discovering New Ways of Living When the Old Ways Stop Working by Shauna Niequist

hopeful inspiring reflective slow-paced

5.0

Shauna Niequist's writing has been a comfort to me over the years. Niequist is a Christian author who writes beautifully about change, curiosity, and the nuances of faith. In I Guess I Haven't Learned That Yet, she writes a series of essays about her journey with grief, big life changes, the beauty of hospitality and friendship, disappointment, heartbreak, and more.

This book is my favorite I've read by her, but honestly, it was probably so monumental for me because it validated revelations I was having around the time I read it. It put words to my new embrace of evaluating old beliefs and the notion that a life of faith often comes with more questions than answers. I admire Shauna's honesty, writing skills, character, and the high value she places on both friendship and family—all of which shined through in this book.

I can only recommend this book to those who "get" essays and enjoy reading them; otherwise, you might be bored reading about Niequist's life and it'd be difficult to understand the depth of what she has written here. Thinking these personal essays are deep and masterfully expressed is subjective, of course, but they meant a lot to me—I initially borrowed I Guess I Haven't Learned That Yet from my library, but I loved it so much that I had to buy my own copy.
