I had mixed emotions towards this novel, like the first in the series. It was hard to feel a liking towards the main characters. Just when you like one of them, they'll do something that makes you question why bother liking them. At the end though, I still liked Kaden. I think the author wanted to make his characters morally complex but it didn't really work for me. Give me either mostly good or bad characters and I'm happy. Like Jorg, the perfect anti-hero, of the Broken Empire series. I think the book could have been a lot shorter too. Why did I give this 3 stars? Well, parts of it were 4 or 5 stars which made up for the rest.
