Tell Me How You Really Feel by Aminah Mae Safi
3.0

I would say this was kind of a 2,75 star read for me. I have conflicting feelings, and I don't really know how to wrap my head around this story.

In the first part of the book, Rachel was insufferable. Absolutely awful. As the story progressed, and as her character developed, I found her to be a lot more agreeable and less of a pain to follow in the chapters narrated by her. Her character was a strong willed, scared, guarded and angry teenager who slowly opened up and challenged her initial stance regarding Sana (and beautiful, perfect people as a whole)

As for Sana, I kind of had the opposite journey with her character. Maybe more so her storyline, and not really in relation to her character and it's development. I could relate to her struggles of being a constant buffer, balancing a whole familys issues solely based on her performances and achievements. However, I felt like her path was... one storyline too many and I was left feeling confused about some of her familial relationships (her mother, and her father to be more specific.) My mind was just screaming that Sana would find herself in some serious therapy in the future, warning bells just.... rang. I think that's more of a personal issue, since her feelings regarding performing and living the life of some one else so that others wouldn't feel bad really mirrored some of my own issues lol.

I enjoyed that Sana and Rachel grew together, and how their changing relationship created ripples in their respective lives, values and relationships. As a whole, i enjoyed their relationship, but the general chaotic energy in the story kind of put me off. There was just a tad too much anger and unresolved conflicts for me to be able to fully enjoy the story as a whole.
