Jacob Have I Loved
by Katherine Paterson
i appreciate sara louise as a protagonist and how real she feels, even though she's kind of an asshole lol. it was pretty depressing all the way through because of how much self-loathing and genuine hatred she has for herself and the people around her, which made the reading experience a bit hard, even though the novel is well-written and has interesting characters. hated the ending though whyyyyy do authors rush through the process of being a young adult to full adult in like a chapter or two. like?? no description of her inner-monologue after her father and grandmother die?? or the death her father-figure/close friend??? sooooo annoying. and!! maybe im just a sadist but it feels lazy that she basically gets everything she wanted in the end despite being relatively unchanged. ahhh!!!
