"The stars, rather than appearing distant and implacable, seemed to be signal fires in the dark, mysterious travelers light a path; one hundred thousand million luminous presences beckoning them from worlds away. See us. We are here. We have always been here. We will always be here."
When I finished reading Signal Fires, I wasn't entirely sure what I thought. But, after a few days and as I sat down to write this review, I realized how captivating the story was and how much it meant to me. Does that ever happen to you after you finish a book?
At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about the non-linear timeline. I'm not always a fan, as they often leave me confused, but by the end of Signal Fires, the non-linear timeline made so much sense, and I sincerely appreciated the author's message.
The stories sprinkled throughout the book unfolded so beautifully that I flagged entire paragraphs to reread them and appreciate the depth of the author's writing. Some moments were so tragically beautiful that they left me feeling heavy and uplifted simultaneously - which, in my opinion, is the mark of a truly talented writer.
I have always been obsessed with the concept of time; therefore, I especially love when a story examines all the different ways that time can exist. I loved the reflection, in Signal Fires, on those that come before us and all the memories a home can have. It brought me so much comfort to read.

π Short book packed without a lot of heart
There was a lot packed into this 240-page book - love, loss, grief, trauma, sickness, and forgiveness of yourself and others; but it never felt like too much. I wholeheartedly recommend adding Signal Fires to your reading list.
