The Women by Kristin Hannah
5.0

Wow, what a book.

I love a good historical fiction novel just as much as the next person, but I can say that I was beyond amazed by The Women. I am a HUGE lover of a book that can move you, make you feel the entire range of emotions from the words on its pages and this book didn’t fall short. I laughed, I cried, I felt angry, worried, anxious, excited… you get the idea.

This was my first Kristin Hannah novel and I’m so glad it was this book, I cannot wait to read more of her collection.

We start the book in America and bravely follow Frankie Magrath to Vietnam and watch her fulfil her purpose as an Army trauma nurse, we watch her make meaningful friendships, we watch her through so much grief, love & anger. Then we watch her come home a different Frankie than she was when she left. We are forced to angrily read about her trying to navigate a life with PTSD when no one spoke of it, and not to mention no one accepted that there were ANY WOMEN in the Vietnam war.

Her journey of suffering, is sad and beautifully messy but Kristin Hannah does it in such a way that it’s as if she’s holding your hand and guiding you too through this difficult but beautiful process. Go into this book knowing you’re going to be moved to your core, bring some tissues and don’t have anything else planned for your day but to finish this book!
