The Nothingness of Ben by Brad Boney
3.0

2.5 stars rounded up, because I didn't hate the plot, but I honestly was a bit disappointed with this one.

I thought the general plot was pretty interesting, but I didn't love the execution. I thought the writing was pretty sub-par and the dialogue and sex scenes were particularly uninspired. I was actually cringing during some of the descriptions during sex, and I just felt like the introduction of ben saying he only ever tops could have been handled a bit more subtly. I actually liked that he had a preferences and was upfront about it, but it felt too contrived.

Honestly I think the main problem for me was the writing, as I generally liked the characters and the story, but it was difficult for me to ever really immerse myself in the book, because everytime somebody spoke, all I could think about was how awkward and unnatural the dialogue felt.

Also, I was a bit annoyed with the ending, how all of a sudden Ben's into bottoming w/ Travis because *true love*. I could have bought it if the author went the "still doesn't feel great, but I like it because it makes Travis feel good* angle, but that's not what happened. And now all of a sudden his body works differently because he and Travis are meant to be? That kind of cheesy BS makes me roll my eyes.
