Of Mice and Men is a novella written by John Steinbeck. Published in 1937, it tells the story of George Milton and Lennie Small, two displaced migrant ranch workers, who move from place to place in California in search of new job opportunities during the Great Depression in the United States.

Steinbeck tells a gripping tale of loneliness, friendship, prejudice, discrimination and family during a dark and troubling time. You continue to feel for Lennie throughout the course of the novel, and never once felt like he was malicious. George symbolises a huge amount of people in society; tough exterior with a pure, inner, caring nature.

Steinbeck reinforces the issues of society at the time through creating these incredible characters that you really beginning rooting for from the very beginning. The language is compelling and brings the novel to life, adds an element to the novel beyond any other.

Classic Southern American literature, a must read for people of any ages.
