SCUM Manifesto by Valerie Solanas
fast-paced
3.75
This book is both sad and hilarious. It was obviously written by woman who has suffered tremendously by the patriarchal society, doubly so for the 60s, and wanted to write her idealized world down, and thus the manifesto was born. She takes the patriarchy and inverses it to show its ridiculousness, now, how much she truly believed in this and wished for it to be a reality, we don't know. But with her life experiences and lack of resources into being able to heal herself, I personally believe she probably fully believed in what she wrote. Now, aside from the bioessentialism, I think thisbis an important read for feminist in America to help shape them into understanding the level needed to face the hard truth of the patriarchal nonsense plaguing us at this time (2025 and possibly the next 4 years). Over all as a nonbinary person, this book was good and hilarious that everyone needs to read at least once for their feminist journey.
My cons personally were that parts seemed to delve into ramblings that could be hard for some to keep up with and the random sprinkling of the academic speak that I think the average reader might not be able to decipher making it a more challenging read when it doesn't need to be. Also, can't get behind bioessentialism or genocide (satire or not).
