A Flame of the Phoenix by Chloe C. Peñaranda
4.5
4.5 ⭐️ what a great end to a wonderful series! The author built such an intricate world that’s so easy to get lost in. I’ll start by saying that I wish there had been a recap of the previous books at the beginning since it’s been 2+ years since the last book came out. I read it in June of 2023, so it took a while to gather my bearings and remember things (but that’s also a skill issue on my part). This book had a lot of povs, which could get a little confusing at times. I think this would’ve been 5 stars had I remembered the earlier books better.
I feel like I can’t say much about the plot itself without spoiling all the build up to this finale. But I will say that this is a long, emotional, stressful, complex journey. I was so invested in all of the characters’ stories—one thing I love about this series is that all the “side characters” really have their own fleshed out personalities and stories. There were so many moving parts in this book that made it such an epic journey.
I do think the book could’ve been a bit shorter and gone through another round of edits because I noticed a lot of typos. Overall, this is a great series that I would definitely recommend to anyone who loves fantasy! I do like that the author left some things open ended about certain characters because I would absolutely read books about them.
