4.25

-.25 for the usual murakami oddities (breasts breasts breasts bad sex weird mommy issues penises ejaculating grown man obsessed with high school girls)
-.5 for the
weird pedo shit halfway through the book like honestly that sullied the whole book. what was the benefit??? I feel like the book could've gone without it or been the same if they were adults like why children??? to make the dowager and aomame mad?? they'd killed for other adult women they would've killed him for adults here too like 🤢 anyway

tamaru was my fav character i wish he'd had more focus. im curious to know if he
is also in this new (old? flipped?) world and if him and the dowager and aomame reconnect

I loved seeing all the plot points tie together throughout the book. I never really felt like I had a solid grasp on where the plot was going until it got there.

I see a lot of people complain about repetition in the book but to me it felt like an intentional them and not an oversight or bad writing? like how aomame used the prayer as a repetitive chant to ground her the repetition of details or plot points felt more like a grounding tool than an accident.

dying to know about
the world they entered like it's clearly not the world aomame left but is it the world Tengo left? did they even come from the same world?? also who was the tax driver that dropped aomame off on the expressway in the beginning I feel like that was never covered but the dude clearly knew some shit. did everyone enter 1q84/cat town through the expressway?? were there other entrances?? part of the enjoyment I had from this book was not knowing these things like even after almost 1000 pages there's still mystery

also I felt kind of bad for ushikawa at the end idk and for tamaru who killed him and then found out he basically didn't need to kill him right after because they're not after aomame to kill her anymore but his first priority is the dowager after all. I want to know about his life so bad how did they meet why is he so devoted to her ugh I love him
