A Room with a View
by E.M. Forster
A Room with a View is about the developing romance between two of the most average, unexceptional people that England had to offer in 1908. George and Lucy are young and naive and they hardly interact throughout the book. Or at least they interact significantly less than you would expect them to in a book about them falling in love with each other. But somehow, it just works. Forster is a beautiful writer who sucks you in and makes you just as interested in the passing thoughts of a side character or the status of a briefly forgotten book as you are in the central plot. Each character is as comical as they are annoying, and you can't help but root for every single one of them. It definitely made me want to read other books by Forster.
I would also highly recommend reading it (or at least the first half) while listening to the soundtrack from the 1986 movie.
