Le Morte d'Arthur, Vols 1-2 by Thomas Malory
4.0
After reading through the first volume – I find the book entertaining. Both, the story(ies) and the language itself are simply captivating. The book also gives you a chance to explore some of the background, some of what the author (and perhaps his age) thinks – through both: what he says and what he does not say, taking it for granted. I find that priceless – it is the kind of thing you would never get from contemporary historical fiction (however well written), for an instance.
Be warned though: if your previous reading has been limited to modern novels, you may find the style – with its compact language and rather epic nature – unfamiliar, and perhaps at times even trying.
