The Gender Game by Bella Forrest
2.0

I really wanted to like this book since the plot sounded very interesting and the concept has so much potential... but. I understand that in a dystopian world you can't expect everything to be realistic but it annoyed me how:

*spoilers ahead*
1. the issues that would definitely arise in a world where men and women are separated are not addressed -- (ex: girls growing up to not know how to really interact with men because they live in a society dominated by women, however the main character can easily adapt to moving to the other side of the river, and even spark romantic feelings / kiss passionately just isn't realistic);

2. Violet is just not a likeable or relatable character in my opinion, she's violent and irrational and I did not feel a connection from the start, although it did get better later, the character just felt lackluster;

3. the ending felt like it was thrown in just for the sake of giving a cliffhanger, there was no prior context or even mention of the toxic forest....

At the rate the book was going I had trouble staying focused enough to read till the end, and I am sad to say that I will not be reading the rest of the series...
