Pretty Reckless
by L.J. Shen
I really enjoyed this one and thought it was a super entertaining read. I honestly have not read many dark, heavy romance books that take place in a high school setting because I'm sometimes hesitant on how they will end up reading but I thought this one did a great job of balancing hard topics as well as not making it seem too unrealistic or impossible. I specifically felt like this book was a cross between the same setup of The OC and the drama of One Tree Hill which are two of my favorite shows so, personally, I was having a great time. I think the overall plot in this book kept me interested as well and I kept not wanting to put the book down because it felt like every chapter was a new turn that I needed more information about. I also felt confused about some of the hidden secrets of the book at the beginning but I didn't necessarily hate that feeling because it felt rewarding as a reader to see everything piece together. And of course, I had a fun time reading about Daria and Penn's story, especially seeing them navigate their flaws and shortcomings and how they grew individually and together throughout the book. I will say though, the details dropped on Knight have made me extremely excited to pick up the next book in this series which is his and I cannot wait to read his story.
